I received a BSc in Biology (1967) and an MSc in Tropical Health (1969) from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon, and a PhD from the Institute of Parasitology, McGill University in 1974. After several years of teaching and research experience, first at the University of Manitoba and later the University of Toronto, I became interested in chiropractic and received my education and training at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC), graduating in 1984. I have been in private practice since graduation, as well as serving as a faculty member in various academic and administrative capacities at CMCC. I currently serve as Professor and Chair of the Department of Pathology and Microbiology, having teaching responsibilities in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases as well as in Clinical Education. As a researcher as well as the current chair of CMCC’s Research Ethics Board, I also contribute by guiding and mentoring fellow faculty and students towards developing/completing their research projects. My past research interests have included host–parasite interactions, and cellular- morphological responses of various biological models to external stimuli. My post-chiropractic research interests have included topics of relevance to public health and to chiropractic education. However, in the past several years my primary focus of research has been to explore the effects of spinal manipulation on selected parameters of the immune response. I currently lead the effort in understanding the effects of a manipulative intervention on inflammatory changes in low back patients.
