Chiropractic Clinic at St. Michael’s Hospital
Restricted access — In 2011, St. Michael’s Hospital opened an Academic Family Health Team (AFHT) clinical practice site at 80 Bond Street. Touted as “the clinic of the future,” the clinic brings together physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, chiropractors, psychologists dietitians, social workers, pharmacists, occupational therapists and dental hygienists, each of whom may play a collaborative roll in patient care through internal referrals. Chiropractic services, offered at the hospital since 2004, have been relocated to the Bond St. site, where expanded service provision is possible through CMCC’s Year IV internship program.
Chiropractic service is provided within a patient-centred and evidence-based model of care and includes treatments such as spinal and joint manipulation, mobilization, soft tissue therapies, modalities, active rehabilitation and exercise program prescriptions – all in coordination with the department's other providers.
The larger space at 80 Bond Street increases access to treatment for inner city patients and has the potential to triple the chiropractic service capacity within the hospital while providing Year IV CMCC interns with a hands-on, unique cultural experience under the supervision of a member of CMCC's clinical faculty. Referrals are accepted through family practice, the Positive Care Clinic and other health providers within the hospital.
